Starting out here, not with this Infinity sensation coming out in the theaters. I read the comic book series over 25-30 years ago. I don't remember all the details. Sometimes they say the movie is better than the book, but more times than not they say the book is better than the movie. I am not going to watch the movie. I felt the comic book was unique and the plot was interesting. I don't know if I will get it correct here, but I am trying to make a point ...not so much aiming at correctness to the original plot.

But, for now, I'm going to do an analogy.

This story is about Anna ...could be spelled Ann, or Ana.

The suffix '-logy' means the study of ...not to be confused with '-ogy', which would leave the 'l'  with the first half, and I certainly would not want to do that.  So, this is a study of Anna, or Ana ...okay, let's call her Ann. And I'm already getting tired of the study of, so let me begin before I'm inclined to finish.

Ann came from a very rich family.

Cain does not have a job, and has no ambition to get one. He has not had very good upbringing either. And Cain has been influenced by a dad who was cruel to his mom.  He identified with that in the wrong way, and he not only does not respect women, he also feels they can be used.  The limits have been stretched, where he has increased his violent outlook ...to view them as expendable.

Cain acquired a gun.  At this time, everyone was, in his mind, expendable. Ann forgot to fill her car with gas, and she is so busy talking on her iPhone that she misses her turn ...a turn that leads her to an exit she did not want to take, where she runs out of gas.

Cain doesn't hesitate ...in his neighborhood, screams are too prolonged, and shots ring out all the time.  One shot, and she is down.  He sees by her car, that she is rich ...but, he doesn't want to steal her car.  The car could be traced ...so, it's her purse he is after. And he is not disappointed.

Somehow they do trace the murder to Cain though. And he is arrested. But, when he goes to trial, a gang leader in Cain's neighborhood pays someone to say they were with Cain on business on the opposite coast. Cain understands that he now owes the gang leader, and his future business will be through him.

Ann's husband Abe knows what just happened in court.  He feels that Cain is guilty of murdering his wife ...and he funnels the emotion of grieving for the death of his wife, into using all his money and resources into making sure that both Cain and the gang leader go to prison.

Abe finds a police officer who also has a vengeance for placing the gang leader into prison, as the gang had threatened also to murder his brother.  Abe finds that Gus is not too popular in the police force, but that he is motivated to the end that justice is carried out.

Note: Now, who do you feel is your least favorite character??

Is it Ann, because you don't like rich people??

(Sorry, I'll just ask you from this point on, and let you provide the reasons.)

Is it Abe??

Is it Gus??

Is it Cain??

Is it the gang leader??

And who do you feel is your favorite character??

Though I didn't like the Workplace Diversity class that I took over 30 years ago, I suddenly just realized that my questioning here is somewhat similar to the 'Island Scenario' from that class. (I tried to 'Google' it, but couldn't find it ...but, just as well, as it would probably only be a distraction from the scenario I've presented here.)

Okay, the analogy ends ...and though we are not yet to the Infinity War, we can begin with a significant war that is not fiction. World War I ...

History can be very helpful to study ...so we don't repeat our mistakes, but also for seeing the good that people have done, so we can repeat the goodness.

But, history can also become a blame game ...as different versions are presented, and if the goal is not to learn then it too often is used as a manipulative tool.

Who did what first ...and the 'why' behind it, or whether the 'why' is justification enough.

And depending on who you ask, as each side verily prefers their own version.

The  two Balkan Wars, between 1912-1913, caused much certain turmoil ...and emotions that had been stirred, were not easily quenched.  A Serbian national assassinated the Archduke of Austrian-Hungary, on June 28th 1914.

One month later (give or take a couple days), Russia mobilizes its vast army to intervene in favor of its ally Serbia.

Germany responds as an ally to Austria-Hungary.

Now, we don't know of all the intentions, plotting, and opportunistic advantages sought ...but, we had Serbia, Austria-Hungary, and Russia.  The fourth one in, was Germany.

Nearly 4 years into the war, Germany and the new Bolshevik government of Russia sign a peace treaty.

(Perhaps the history of Russia would be more interesting to many Americans ...as they would find the story to have many twists and turns, and it wouldn't matter as much what the truth was, as we may not take sides as we tend to do.  With Nicholas II going to the battle lines, and his wife left behind with their sick son ...Alexandra was very vulnerable to Rasputin, whom she felt was a man of God.)

From World War II, we see another interesting photo ...of Winston Churchill, FDR, and Joseph Stalin sitting together. And it was said that Churchill warned FDR, not to trust Stalin.  But, supposedly FDR felt Stalin was an okay guy.

Yes, it's very difficult to report factual history ...especially concerning a war, when so many nations have their version on what happened.  And this also happens quite intensely within a nation. Supposedly George Patton didn't always like the way things came down.  And Douglas MacArthur was also held back from much of what he'd like to have done.

Yes, it's so much easier to speak of fiction ...as we can read it, and it usually only has one source, so we can reread it for the facts.

That sort of brings me to the comic books I read 30 years ago or so. The Infinity Quest ...Infinity Gauntlet ...Infinity Wars.

'Infinity' typically means beyond comprehension ...or as Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story said, "To infinity ...and beyond!"

But, back to the comic book series ...

There were six gems ...

The MIND GEM ...

The REALITY GEM ...

The POWER GEM ...

The SPACE GEM ...

The TIME GEM ...

The SOUL GEM ...

All the gems were considered to be too dangerous to be kept together ...a theme that seems similar to The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien.  But, of course, it was accomplished by Thanos ...and placed on one glove, which he wore.

In our own world, there have been people who seem a bit out of it. A few gems at depicting reality, were Salvador Dali ...with his The Persistence of Memory painting.  Another gem was Pablo Picasso ...and any number of paintings would fit the bill.  Then if you ever come across a starry night, you may feel the patriotic speech of Julius Caesar's supposed friend, Mark Anthony, saying, "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears ..." ---to which Vincent van Gogh may have taken too seriously.  Oh, the tangled web of falling in love!

Back to the Future ...was a gem of a movie for time travel.

Of course, there is Star Trek...and Star Wars, for space manipulation.

Many people feel that knowledge is power ...and at times, it is frightfully so.  Strength is actually a very variable consideration.

The mind ...and the soul, are linked in many ways. The soul has a broadened definition, but usually includes: reasoning (including motivation and drive ...from the essence of us), character (hopefully building, not faltering), feelings (a wide range from constructive to destructive), consciousness (including awareness), memory (often formulated by how we choose to remember, and the emotions involved), perception (often taught, and influenced by others), and thinking ( influenced by all of the aforementioned, and the mind does the thinking that affects our deeper sense of soul).

I believe the comic book character, Thanos, manipulated the minds of the other superheros, to put them at odds with one another.

This is also very evident in politics ...where the reality, saturated with false reporting and festering doubt, bends the mind of countless people.

And yes, this doesn't just have to be in politics ...as it causes discord on the family level, and in communities. And as there is power in numbers, when it gets to higher levels ...nations can get involved in wars.

But, the biggest war was not World War I, and it was not World War II ...and it was not was, it is.

Of course, the proportion and scope of it has been different throughout time.  A number cannot be assigned to how many angels there were ...but, if we say a third of them were participants in a rebellion, the other two-thirds were involved with fighting against them.  I don't think it would be a wild statement to say that all were involved in some fashion or another.

That is a significantly large battle ...

Compare listing the events of the year 2001 ...as a result of the events of the terrorist plane attacks, nearly 3,000 people were killed (and over twice as many more wounded).  Would we neglect to mention that while recalling the events of 2001??

Many people don't remember that only about a week later, 5 people died as a result of mailings containing Anthrax.  It remains clear in my mind, but others likely have not held it as much in memory ...because 5 lives compared to nearly 3,000, just doesn't stand out as much in memory.

There are those who say that the angels were created within the six days of Creation.  With the mention of herbs, grass, trees, fish, fowl, and cattle ...it would seem to me that angels would be significant enough to mention if they were created within the six days.

Then, after the first Chapter of the Book of Genesis details the creative events ...the second Chapter mentions a garden, a restriction upon it, and the naming of animals.  There is no mention of an angelic rebellion.

But, then, at the beginning of Chapter 3, we suddenly see that serpent ...the devil, Satan, however he is referred to.  As an angel, before the rebellion, he was called Lucifer.

In short, (which I seldom am) what I really believe is ...that the angels, and their rebellion were before the six days of Creation. The restriction upon Lucifer resulted in darkness being upon the face of the deep. And the light that was before, was restored ...and made evident on Day One of Creation.

But, when I speak of the rebellion of one third of the angels ...isn't that also 'was', so why did I say 'is'??  If I'm implying that was a larger war, why did I say the biggest war is???

I said that because I am referring to the war for our souls, or more accurately ...for our salvation, which is the determination of whom we will be living with for eternity.  And there are more people on earth than there ever has been during any one period of time. There seem to be infinite battles for our minds and the way we think.

Infinity ...and eternity ...with God, it is eternity in both directions. For everybody else, aside from God, it is eternity in one direction, beginning with birth or creation ...and then eternally with God, or outside of God's presence.

The comic books and the superhero movies get it closer than the evolutionists ...because there is a spirit world out there, beyond the mere laws that scientists may claim are evident in the universe.

Yet, the movies often present their own disturbing (and inaccurate) trend as of late.  It seems that the bad guys have increasingly more power.  And the only chance is for the good guys to outsmart them.

We can't outsmart Satan ...but, though he is way more powerful than you or me (and there is no Kryptonite effect that can be used against the bad guys), he is not more powerful than our Creator.

And the wisdom of knowing we can pray and have faith in our Creator ...is power enough to transport us into an eternity without the evil one, into the outstretched loving arms of our Savior.
